I seem to remember the occasional post amongst Jerry's Kids from somebody who lives in former Yugoslavia and who is knowledgeable about the current state of its wines. Can anyone supply me with any contact details and brief biog?

The only Slovenian wine I've seen in my area is Avia. I've had their Merlot, and they also make a Cabernet Sauvignon. You can get a magnum of either for around 8 bucks- and you can tell that's all you paid for it when you taste it.

I'm looking for a specific person, not wine. Those on the old Jerry's Kid's will recognise UKTom and know what I mean.

UKTom, Know exactly who you`re talking about. He was a wine-maker and exporter that Jerry knew well. I`ll talk to Sean and see if he knowa. Jim W probably does. Winoweenie

Tom, while we've got you here, have the laws re release dates on Vintage Champagnes been changed? I haven't seen any 1997's her yet and then some guy comes in here trying to sell me a 1998 yesterday... What gives???

Hi Roberto

Have a look - I posted this over two years ago! But pleased to oblige a fellow fizz freak. Nothing has changed as far as release date of vintage Champagne is concerned. A few 1997s and 1998s were available last year and quite a number have been released since. Some of the 1997s that have been released and I have tasted recently include Georges Vesselle 1997 Brut Zero Millésime, Vollereaux 1997 Cuvée Tradition Vendange Brut, Henri Mandois 1997 Blanc de Blancs, Vilmart & Cie 1997 Grand Cellier d'Or, Henri Goutorbe 1997 Brut Grand Cru Club de Viticulteurs Champenois, Beaumont des Crayères 1997 Fleur de Rosé Brut Rosé, G.H. Mumm & Cie 1997 Cordon Rouge Brut Millésimé, J. Dumangin Fils 1997 Carte d'Or Brut, Billecart-Salmon 1997 Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart, Perrier-Jouët 1997 Cuvée Belle Epoque Rosé, Henri Abelé 1997 Soirées Parisiennes, Abel Lepitre 1997 Brut Millésimé, Pierre Gimonnet 1997 Premier Cru Chardonnay, J. de Telmont 1997 Grande Vintage Brut.
