I am planning a "wine and cheese" event and I need some help coming up some ideal wines. I also need help with fruit wines (apple wine etc).

Please help!

Hi Jie, and welcome to the Wine Board. It is hard to make recommendations without knowing what cheeses you are serving. But you could do it the other way around. I would recommend that you get some Australian Shiraz and some Australian Unwooded Chardonnay, and ask the vender what cheeses to get that are available locally. I would get Sheep's Milk Camembert and Maytag Blue to go with the shiraz, and the same or similar cheeses for the chardonnay.

Also, since you are in Raleigh you might contact Chrish at Carolina Wine Company on Hillsborough and ask for help. They sometimes carry Epoisse cheese to go with their Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc wines and other combinations that are known to work well. Chrish or someone on his staff would be happy to make suggestions if you buy some of the wines from them. They also have a selection of cheeses at Vin Enoteca on Glenwood Avenue (Chrish is a partner in that venture).
