Hello All,

Being new to the board and trying to learn as much as possible about wines. I would also like to learn more about all of the moderators ie background in wine, education etc.

Each of you seem very knowledgable about wine, so thought it would be nice to know more about each of you.

Sure, I'm easy. Been into wine for 40-odd years, enjoying a bottle with wife each evening at dinner for the last 15 or so; tried making the stuff and playing in a wine shop; have a cellar plus two storage units and have encountered most of the possible problems associated with wine storage. Only wine education is a recent short course in viticulture. How's that?

Been doing wine about as long as hotwine. Had wine (in small amounts) when we were way too young to be legal. I vaguely recall getting 1961 Ch. Lafite Rothschild for about $10 or so. Remember when I couldn't wait till the current vintage of Clos du Bois Marlstone came out. Read a lot - have many books on wine, even as a secondary subject. Had about 10 wineries within 4 miles of our last home, and visited often, asking questions, tasting wine, etc. Been working retail wine for a bunch of years. Visited an awful lot of wineries over a lot of years, asked a lot of questions from the staff, winemakers, owners. Made a bunch of friends in the wine industry. Taste an awful lot of wine every week. And so on, and on.

Forgot to mention - I have kids who are into wine also, at least two out of three anyway. CG is one of them.

Well, I'm 66 and have been drinking wine since I was 12, or for 46 years. No, make that 72 years. (Wait a minute; yes dear, thanks). OK, make that 55 years.

Other than sipping and tasting over the years in many fortunate locals, for example France from 64-66, Germany 66-68, Hawaii (with access to California wines) from 72-77, I only had five and a half years "in the business." That was the last job I had in the Air Force when twenty five bases with Officers and NCO Clubs, Package Stores, and other food and drink outlets came under my responsibility. It was the first time I had access to wholesale wine catalogs (a real eye opener); and among many wine related initiatives we conducted was encourageing the folks at each base to get to know their local wineries, conduct tours to them, and carry the better wines in their clubs and stores.

Since joining this Board in November '98, I also had the opportunity to learn a thing or two.

I don't know about that Georgie. With each glass I keep subtracting wine from the bottle without any problems...

It's a teacher thing...in fact, I've written IK's word problem on the board for tomorrow's early work. "If Carl starting drinking wine (illegally) when he was 12 years old, and he is now 66 years old, for how many years has he been a wino?" It's a great problem to show how math applies to everyday life, don't you think?

If you look on the Novice thread about people's first wine, you will see that at 12 I got a sip of Spatlese every Thanksgiving.

Georgie, Taping to a chair is nothing. We had an incident a few years ago here in MA where a worker in a child care facility duct taped a two year old to a wall because it kept crying. Like that's going to get it to stop.

In the old days, when I taught middle school with a bunch of middle aged Vietnam vet guys, they used to always say, "If they'd just let me shoot one, just ONE, that would be all it would take!"

Georgie, I just want to know where were all of these frisky teacher-babes when I was in school? All I ever encountered were little old blue-haired ladies, along with an occasional Brunhilde.
