I was raiding my utility closet to drink up some of the older wines and ran into two that were "over-the-hill" and soon ended up "down-the-drain" (a Chard and a run-of-the-mill Piesporter Riesling). Tonight I will open a half-bottle of a 1997 Trimbach Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardives and I expect better things of it!
I will be going to an offline tasting of out-of-the ordinary wines Saturday night and will report back on that. I am taking the Glenora Wine Cellars sparkling wine that I "finished" at the offline in May and an Anthony Road Vignoles from the Finger Lakes, plus a "bargain Bordeaux." We were told we could bring something that we think is a good QPR and want to share with others.

We're still here. And I'm still nippin' at cellar stock.... too hot to be buying wines that have been hauled around town in un-air conditioned cargo vans, sitting on loading docks and in 75-degree retail shops. (OK, so I'm becoming paranoid on the subject.)

Found a small stash of VdP PNs on a bottom shelf in the cellar.... nice surprise. Could be other little gems on those bottom shelves; that's the darkest level in the cellar, since illumination is provided by rope-lights in the corners formed by walls and ceiling. And of course, I usually forget to take along a flashlight....

Not doing much lately. Came down with a cold a week ago, so couldn't taste anything. Now I seem to have a touch of the flu, so I'm not putting anything in that's going to come back out. Oh well.

Here's to a quick recovery. Summer's a lousy time to come down with a bug like that.

I'm around and have been drinking, though have spent the better part of the last 2 days fighting with Earthlink. Contacted tech support for help on a small matter, and their help ended up with me losing my profile, losing my e-mail program, and having to start from scratch with a new browser and e-mail program. Ugh. I'm off to try and install the newest version of Earthlink software.

I'll post on a few recent wines shortly.

Oh, no! Not the dreaded CVM?!

Recent re-runs have included the NV Renard-Barnier Champagne (definitely in the "nothing special" category), 2001 "Ruvei" Barbera d'Alba (fabulous wine, on the third bottle in as many days), 1999 Maison Nicolas VdP d'Oc PN (evolving very nicely for a cheapo, super with grilled salmon). Others have already faded from memory and their empties taken the one-way ride to the big recycling plant in the sky.

Now go sic the caped-vinegar-dude on somebody else! Ah dun did mah dooty.

Sitting in the middle of wine country with no wine in the house--my stash is still at the old house in the city. Have most of it boxed and ready to join me here next week. (Because of the heat I needed extra time to get my cellar set up before I brought my babes to their new home.) I do however have lots of liquor in the house-- most of which will still be here when you all get here next summer! Then there's the beer...
Will promise to resume wine drinking soon!
CCK

I am new to this board so I am checking it out. Sure seems kind of quiet. What can we do to liven it up?

Hi CC and welcome to the Board. Don't you have winter out there? Most of us do, and are enjoying getting out and around right now. If you check around the other forums on the net, you will also see that their normal participation is down. So, liven us up any way you like.
