Eileen's Mom died early this morning at a local hospice following a stroke she suffered 9 days ago. 81 years old and hands down, the most loving, compassionate and simple woman I've known in life. She loved her wine and always looked forward to holidays knowing I'd come with special gifts to her son's dismay .

I hope you and Eileen and other family members were comforted by the promise of Easter. Having lost my mother less than a year ago, I'm all too aware of the pain and void it creates. My sister says some of the Midwestern flowering trees were damaged by late cold spell this year and Mother would have been dismayed at the lack of flowering crabtrees, forsythia, etc. so which brightened her view from her balcony. Many little personal details like that will bring Eileen's mother back to mind and seem like a presence with you.

Laid Mom to rest yesterday in a most amazing ceremony held at our church in SW Baltimore City, St. Joseph's Monastery. A mini cathedral that could not be built in today's economy, Mom sung in the choir for many years. The vocalist for the service was a young woman whose rendition of the Ave Maria was the most moving and perfect I've heard... incredible voice! As we exited the church we were surprised by 6 Baltimore City motorcycle officers who greeted us and escorted the procession to the cemetery in southern Baltimore County, stopping traffic at every intersection allowing for a non stop, exciting procession. Citizenry stopped to watch the procession in wonderment along the road ways and I can only imagine their thoughts as to who the dignitary was being escorted in such grand fashion. A most perfect funeral for our great lady who would have probably objected to that use of taxpayer money.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers during this most sad time for our family.

Drew

Very sad to say that Eileen and I found her 46 year old brother dead in Mom's house early this afternoon apparently due to a fall he suffered the day prior. This is devastating and so deeply sad for us. He was a wonderful, intelligent man who lovingly and expertly cared for his mother over the past many years since she became ill.

Oh no. How terrible. Two important family members gone in such a short time. Just awful. My sincere sympathy to you both.
