youse guys are really rubbin it in- I've been out three times already, but if you let it build up its a killer!! Couldn't you send us some of your sunshine, and some of those sausages while you're at it?? Fighting the blizzards makes me really hungry. My poor grill is just a sad lump in the snow...

Speakin' of bein' a killer.... y'all be real careful shovelin' those snowflakes. They cause an awful lot of heart attacks when bunched.

I get compensated nicely from time to time at the shop. No complaints.

Well, the snow we got here in the Boston area made it as the fourth greatest single storm accumulation since they started posting records. Took over an hour to make the 12 mile trip home yesterday.

One of the joys of apartment living is having absolutely no responsibility on days like these. Don't even own a shovel these days, though I'm well aware of what I'm missing, having lived for 6 years in Montpelier, Vermont.

Yesterday I trudged happily around the neighborhood with my love, discovering to our delight that many of the local stores were open, including the butcher shop (steaks), the video store (Lantana), and even the wine shop (Quady Elysium). Then we had quite a nice evening making use of our purchases.

The steaks were great with an awesome 1999 Leone di Castris Primitivo di Manduria from is-wine ($16). Powerful cherry and red berry and a hint of that Southern Italian earth made this an instant hit with us. Also had some yummy collards with garlic and red potatoes. Followed up with my wife's intense brownies and a glass of the Elysium--I'll post a note in the dessert wine section as this seems to be dragging on and I'm sure some of you are beginning to nod off.

Can't resist a final plug, though, for the movie Lantana. An Australian film that turned out to be really good. A flick about love and complex relationships in the guise of a mystery. Very well done.

Well, we got about an inch out of it. Just finished cleaning it off the walks and vehicles with a broom. It is pretty though; covered up all the grunge.

An inch? Oh please...I just got finished digging a 50 ft. trench from the front door to the road. The snow was up to my armpits. I feel like Steve McQueen in "The Great Escape" for crying out loud. Now if I can find my car out back, I'm going to buy me a nice bottle of Australian port! and I may just drink it out of a tumbler!

my poor Labrador!! She couldn't even walk outside, the snow was so deep. She looked like a rabbit trying to get through it. I had to shovel an area clear for her so she could do her business. A Black Lab with snow all over her face is a cute and funny sight!

Happy Snow Day to all you guys & gals who got a break from work today. NOW do you think it would be a good idea to invest in a wine cellar?

Well, after posting the 1" this morning we managed to get 3 more. No big deal. All swept away. Took the car, not the 4X4, and picked up some ice cream for Mother after dinner tonight. Oh, we did get a broken pipe as things thawed today, so tomorrow I have to get out the checkbook.

Glad you didn't get too much snow, IK. I'd wager that you've had your share of big snows to deal with. I really enjoy those three or four inch storms. They don't cripple you and they do make the world look beautiful. Speaking of beautiful, this afternoon, I actually saw blue sky and sunshine! It's been awhile!

All OK here now. Everything is thawed, and the pipe is fixed ($40). The cold and not the blizzard was our big problem here. Over the weekend we had double digit temps below zero for four consecutive nights! Even the drains for two of our tubs were frozen!

I think I'd rather deal with the snowdrifts than that really cold stuff. This weekend I plan to attend the NJ Flower, Garden and Outdoor Living Show where in addition to seeing something to remind me that spring is indeed on its way, I'll have a chance to taste wines from several local wineries. Wine makers from across the state will be on hand to answer questions about their wines and winemaking. Sounds fun!

That does indeed, Georgie. A lot more than IK had with his plumbing. Glad this house is on city water, rather than the private well that we had several years back.... the pipe from the well to the house would freeze, and I'd have to camp out with wife's hairdrier on the end of a long extension cord to keep the pipe valves thawed out enough to provide water to the house. Life's too short for that kind of nonsense.

Wonder how our full-time warrior Drew is doing.... the slimeballs of this world don't take snow-days, and he can't look forward to going home when his tour is up. He gets to home at night, but then faces it again the next day. Sing out, Drewskie, and tell how goes it.
