Why don't we arrange some kind of convention or gathering? We can do it in an off period when most of us have time to kill, and we can do it in a central location like, perhaps, the Midwest or some such place. It would be great to do it overseas, but that is too ambitious for the first time out.

Let's set a thread on the moderator forum where we each post weeks within months that we can be free to attend in 2004. Then, we compile the results--I'll volunteer to do that--and come up with the dates convenient to the most people on the board. Next, we contact a hotel or convention center in a middle ground place, get some rates and then move from there.

Imagine the fun a weekend can be with wines from all our cellars.

The geographic center of the U.S. is Lebanon, Kansas, but I don't think that this is exactly a tourist mecca.

Kansas City and Denver are the two closest major cities to Lebanon that may entice a few people.

Any other ideas?

Anyone for Wine County? I know it's not central but there are often good bargains. Southwest Air flies into Oakland...

And I could arrange a private tour for us all to Napa and Sonoma... also Livermore and Santa Cruz Mountains, courtesy of WINES.COM.

San Francisco, of course, is also a great food town.

Believe it or not . . . I've never been to California (insert incredulous commentary here). Thus, Jackie's suggestion is veeeery appealing to me!

Denver also sounds good, from the other suggestions mentioned.

Air fares aside, you can probably stay in a nice hotel and eat in nice joints in Denver for a week for what it would cost for a DAY in San Fran or the Wine Country, eh? This was why I suggested Rio de Janeiro: $600 air fare but once you get their you can't give your money away!

How about Vancouver on the same logic...

Keeping in mind that expense is not my priority, I'd vote for the city by the bay anyday. The food is just incredible and wine country is a short distance. I have a lot of friends and contacts in Napa/Sonoma to insure a great time.

That said, San Francisco is in my back yard, so I don't mind traveling to Denver or KC, or wherever, to ease travel considerations for others.

I'll also be in charge of the shock collar for WW. Better than a stun gun!
