That's a mighty generous offer from Gene. It sure works for us.

I am not amazed by Gene's (Glenora's) offer. He is quite a guy, and it is quite a story--Glenora Wine Cellars. When NY Legislators got their act together, and passed a law in 1976 favorable to starting small commercial wineries, Glenora was the first Farm Winery to get started in the F. Lakes, and it has been in the vanguard of the region's growth. Gene was among the first people I met when I was on the prowl to start my winery in the F. Lakes--he tried, but he did not succeed at talking me out of it...I'll get back at him for that someday.

Anyway, it's a 300 mile drive for me from NYCity, but I still have a place up there, so of course, the idea is ok with me. If we do it on the date in May that Jackie suggested the weather will be good, and the tourists will not yet have arrived. In all, it is a good idea, and it would be a great education for those unfamiliar with the region and its wines.

I'm just seeing this thread for the first time. Has the discussion been moved to another forum?
Personally, I think it would be best to either go for the Finger Lakes plan or the Napa plan, mainly because those are locations with possibilities for winery visits. If we're going to go between the coasts, then I would suggest Chicago. It's the biggest city with the best eating between Cali and NY. And it's quite easy to find discount airfares to come here.
