I am giving some wines as a gift and don't want to spend more than $150 per bottle. I need to find a good year and a specific bottler of Australian Syrahs and I need a good year for Sebastiani Cabernet. Thanks.

The best Sebastiani Cabernet I've had since the 70s is the 1981 Eagle Vineyard. Nothing else has come close since.

Hi Coron78 and welcome to the board. You'd be hard pressed to spend 150 for any Aussie wine withe exception of Penfolds Grange which you'd have to spend lots more for as it's in the secondary market. I may be dense but is there a reason to limit your US purchases to Sebastiani? Lots of far superior juice out there IMHO.The 1999 Winemakers Reserve is a very nice bottle that can be had for 30-35 per. WW

Try to find the 2001 Marquis-Phillips "Integrity" Shiraz which should be released very soon. It'll fetch around $90 per bottle and Parker rated it a 99 pointer. My wine guy Tom from Midway recently had dinner with Sparky and Sarah Marquis where he had the pleasure to sample the Integrity and he pronounced it "Outstanding". There are still a lot of great '98 Aussie Shiraz available and the 2001 vintage is a beauty. Oh and BTW, he sez Marquis is pronounced "Markwiss" and not "Markey".

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. I used those wines because I was told they were among the "favorites" of the gift recipients.

A Revolutionary-era kinsman of mine was named after the Marquis de Lafayette. Naturally, in the "Wild West" of Mississippi in the 1780's, few folks could read and fewer folks had seen the good marquis' name in print. So my great-great... ended up being named "Marcus de Lafayette Allen." Spelled it like it sounded.

Drew, thanks for the pronounciation tip. I've been wondering which way it is pronounced.
