I am trying to do a quick study on wines to get a job. What is a versateilles. Is this different kinds of wine? or different categories? Where would I go to find out about this? Please help.

Spencer, I've been drinking wine for about 1.5 years, and involved with this board for the last 8 months. I have been enjoing the jurney of learning about wines.
But the thing I have mostly learned is that there is no quick way to learn about wine. You may learn a few technical words to throw around. But to truley have wine knowledge you must experience it one "viratal" at a time.....Hic. [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/biggrin.gif[/img]

And I still have a looong way to go.

Hi Spence and welcome to the board. The term is undoubtedly Varietals, which in concise terms means the type of grapes used in making the wine;ie Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot etc. The best wine manual according to the majority of novices on this boatd is " Wines for Dummies ".( Or something to that effect ) WW

Wine for Dummies is actually a great book, I read it last year. It is very easy to read (quite funny at times), very interesting and by the time you have finished the entire book, you know the basics of wine. You will start recognizing labels, regions and tastes described in the book - I can recommend it to anyone who has just started drinking wine and wants to know a little more about it.
