Can anyone advise me as to where to find Bartlett wines, other than in Maine? I love their products, but am limited to obtaining them when I am able to make it up to Maine. Thank you.

I guess you'll have to go to Maine. Sorry but this is not wine. Wine is ONLY produced from GRAPES.

Jennifer,
You can call the winery direct @ 207-546-2408 and ask them if they will ship direct to you. I think that may be a problem, because here in CT I believe it is illegal for them to ship direct to the consumer. If that is the case, go to your local liquor store and ask them if they can order it for you. If all else fails, go to Maine and buy plenty.

Bartlett makes pear "wine" that tastes like chardonnay, and blueberry "wine" that tastes like cabernet. How do they do that? How else, they subject them to massive doses of, you guessed it, OAK.

Although all the wine I drink is made from grapes, wine can be made from other fruits. Because most wine is made from grapes, and most people associate the word wine with grapes, it is customary usage when refering to wine not made from grapes to specify the fruit source. So when we hear 'wine', we understand that it's wine made from grapes. But when we hear 'blueberry wine' we understand it's wine not made from grapes.

From The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition:

wine NOUN: 1a. A beverage made of the fermented juice of any of various kinds of grapes, usually containing from 10 to 15 percent alcohol by volume. b. A beverage made of the fermented juice of any of various other fruits or plants. 2. Something that intoxicates or exhilarates. 3. The color of red wine.

Yes, the first definition specifies grapes, but it is not the only definition. It is clear that wine is not made only from grapes.

Jennifer, next time you're in here in Maine, stop by Cellardoor Winery in Lincolnville for some excellent wine made from grapes. While there have dinner at the Youngtown Inn next door for a fantastic meal. You can stay there too.
