Help!

I'm in search of a couple of good books or references to help with learning more about wine without just going to the store and walking the isles dumbfounded and lost. I would rather go in with a hint of knowledge on this subject and take an educated guess. This way I'm not taking such a chance and getting a bottle of something a wino wouldn't touch.
I occasionally go to the Finger Lakes Region of New York, for the wine trails. Many, if not all, of the local wineries offer wine tastings which is very helpful in finding the ones I like. I have also started a log, or a little book, of labels with my personal commentary on each wine.

As often recommended, Wine for Dummies is a good starting point.

No, seriously, this is a good book -- I'm not jerking your chain. I learned a lot about computers thanks to the Dummies series. I worked my way through a bunch of them. Another good book is Windows on the World Wine Course by Kevin Zraly. As you progress, I recommend Tom Stevenson's books -- a good author and a genuinely nice guy.

You might also look for Andrea Immer's "Wine Buying Guide for Everyone." It features over 400 widely available wines that are consistant year in and year out as well as much valuable additional information on each and how to taste wines. It was published this year, is in digest format, and lists for $12.95. Amazon and others have it at discount.

Many other books in this format contain vintages of recommended wines, and therefore become outdated very quickly. This one will be useful for many years.

I to am pretty new at wine and bought a couple of books. I found "The Everything Wine book" helpful. I also liked "I'm in the wine store. What now?" Easy and fun to read.

KC & WW have a whole shelf full of books themselves -- Dr. Seuss.........

Actually they're a complete set of Hardy Boys and a few Horatio Alger. Sold the Dr. Seuss first edition collection so I could afford the Shafer Hillside Select allocation.
