I'm here in Tigard, OR staying with my sister while I'm in town for my job interviews. We went down to the safeway (supermarket) for some groceries. Their wine section, although small, was incredibly well stocked! They had Gabbiano chiantis and classico's, the 97 Banfi Riserva for 13 bucks. Wisker's Blake Tawny Port, JPA Par. 45, Banrock Station Unwooded Chard. In Idaho, to get anything remotely good I have to drive 30 miles to the wine shop. The supermarket selection near me is horrible. I can say, I am going to thoroughly enjoy moving to this area.

Bucko,

We are hitting it officially. We have an appartment already reserved, a moving date and all. Tigard will be our home in a little less than a month.

I'm a little over two hours North -- Olympia, WA. Marshall Manning lives in Tigard and is VERY active in the local wine scene. We'll have to link up.

B, you'll find that Safeway's "specials" on wine are frequent & good. IMHO you'll find Albertson's supermarket to be an even better source for wine. AND, Albertson's will discount any case to 10% over cost, plus they run monthly discounts as well. For example, I can get Cline Zin for $6.99/bottle by the case & Montevina Sierra Foothills Zin for $6.92.

In addition to Safeway & Albertson's, don't miss Winco Foods...no case discounts, but very low shelf prices. With those big 3 options plus Fred Meyer supermarkets & local wine stores, you'll quickly forget ever having lived in Idaho

BTW, welcome to the spotted owl state.

I've read many posts from Marshall Manning on the WCWN boards and I respect his TN's / opinions very much.
