I would like to found a good red wine for my father in law for Christams without breaking the bank.Personally,I don't drink red wine only whites so i would really appreciate your help and advice.

Nice thought! It would be helpful if you could tighten that request a bit. There are dozens of countries producing good wine with tens of thousands of wineries, each producing 1 to dozens of wines... The world is large out there. Nothing detailed, Does he like specific countries, types of grapes, style of wine (dense and full versus lighter, etc,..). Also what is your upper limit.

Asked the same question at my local wine shop. I did specify Italian.

They suggested a 2003 Burdese (Planetta Burdese) which he said was "spectacular"

I paid $44
