Hi Debinnc, and welcome to the Wine Board. Obviously none of us know what your father likes. So, we are (well won't use that expression). If he likes to eat with his wine, it would be reasonable to get a food friendly wine. One we particularly like right now is Easton, California, Barbera ($18.00). It is available from www.wine.com , where there are other Christmas suggestions. This is an emanately quaffable wine that can be sipped in the afternoon, or married with a wide variety of foods.

Cline makes some very good wines. Their red Cotes d'Oakley is quite good and their red Zinfandel is also very good.

Does your Father like sparkling wine? If so, try to get him some Prosecco from Italy. A very nice, dry sparkling wine. Goes great with seafood.

Or try some of the Iron Horse Blanc de Blancs from California. Oh, such a very decent bubbly.

And please forgive me. My spelling is terrible, since I was raised on phonetics and not on proper wording...........

Hi there Debbie in North Carolina and welcome to the board. If your dad`s a red wine drinker and you can find it the 1997 Stonehedge Cabernet is an awesome bottle for its` 20 buck price. If he like sissy whites disregard this post. winoweenie

I find after talking about wine choices that many "kids" (of all ages) like the idea of giving Daddio a fairly dry, medium to full-bodied red wine, or a non-vintage port. (The Dad feedback has been favorable too.) If you do not go with one of the great ideas already posted, I'd check out the past posts on the Australia/New Zealand/South Africa thread & the Best Buys thread for other good/interesting ideas. My first two Aussie picks that come to mind- Heritage Road, Reserve Cab. Sauv. and Greg Norman Cabernet/Merlot, which would be soo perfect if your dad's into golf!

I'll second that, CCK, I love golf, Norman, and his wines. (If I could only get my son to read these postings...hmmmmm!?)
