Looking for the impossible?

I'm getting married next weekend and I'm looking for a special wine. Here's the catch... I want to buy 2 cases of it and be able to store it so that I can open bottles of it with my new wife over the next 40 years on special occasions like anniversaries, births, etc. But I'd also like it to be in the $20-25 per bottle range. Is it possible to find a reasonably priced wine that will age well or am I asking too much here?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Jeff and welcome to the Wine Board. The only wine I know of that will last that long is a Vintage Porto. There are some available in that price range. Check with a reputable wine retailer.

You're not going to find a decent Vintage Port for less than $40-50 on release.

Here's my .02 . . .

If I were you, I'd shoot for a shorter time frame. 40 years is a bit much, and that's where the problem here lies. Hopefully, you'll have plenty of memorable and noteworthy special occasions over the next, say, 10 years to have a special case or two to open wines marking the occasions. After the 10 years, you can always pick up another special case or two, possibly as (or part of) an anniversary gift, to mark the next 10 years of special moments of your lives. Just a thought.
