proper storage time & temperature

how long should whites/reds be stored? we have a number of wines but no basement or cellar/storage facility-is it ok to store at room temperature?
also same question for ice wine.

Welcome to board. At what I assume is your room temp in BC of 72+ the wines will be OK for up to a year, probably. Hard question without knowing whose wines, quality, etc. WW

I see that the response given was 72 degrees and the wine should keep for about a year. What about the wines that we want to keep for up to ten years or more. At what temp. should these wines be kept?

55* is the ideal temp for long-term storage. WW

Thankyou for the reply winoweene. Here is another question. I just got a 432 bottle wine refrig. I got it out of a garage that was going to be reconstructed. The inside is all cedar. I've read in the past that a motor such as that on a refrig. will vibrate the wine and that that is not good. Will I be safe in storing all of my wine in here? Even those that I plan on holding onto for a few years?

How do I find out when a wine is supposed to mature? Also, If a red wine (cabs) is stored properly at the right temp. and humidity, etc... what are the chances of the wine going bad or passing maturity? Or can a wine pass maturity if it is stored correctly?

If what you acquired is a refrigerator designed for keeping wine, then the vibration of the motor was considered in the design and is not a problem.

The two ways to find out when wine should mature are to read a lot and to drink a lot.

Yes, properly stored wine can pass maturity and move into "damn, wish I had drunk that".
