Vintage Champagne

Looking for a vintage champagne for this years festivities. I would like to spend somewhere between $50-$100 and want to get the best I can for the money. I've had some experience with the NV up to $40 types and want to try something new any thoughts appreciated.

Haven't seen any for less than $100. Personally prefer the style of Taittinger Brut but haven't bought it because I don't like the price ($130 last time I looked). Pox on 'em!

I recently tried a vintage Pol Roger, I believe either 1996 or 1998. Both seem to be currently available in the $60 range. I liked it a lot, sorry I can't remember exactly which year it was though.

Hotwine, on wineaccess I see several vintages of the Taittinger Brut available for $50 to $70 - did you mean the Blanc de Blancs?

At the far end of this spectrum is the 1996 Dom Perignon that can be had for about $99 in the right areas. They are now harder to find since the 1998 is out. You note that you wanted a Vintage Champagne. If not, I really like Delamotte NV (around $40) and a Pierre Moncuit Delos Brut Grand Cru Blanc de Blanc Champagne around $35. There are Champagne experts on this board, of which I am NOT one of so you may want to see more responses. Certainly the other ones identified so far are pretty good as well.

You should know that Botofogo ( an original Wine Board member) is the Champagne headquarters of California (Wine Expo in Santa Monica, CA). He has some of the usual suspects plus a whole bunch of the grower stuff.
