hi all,

i have just come across something in a box that my grandmother had given me. i was hoping someone could tell me what i have here.

i have a corked bottle of

"Excelsior Sec"
New York State Champagne

CALINY WINERIES
MONTAGE VINEYARDS CO.
HAMMONDSPORT, NY

the vintage on this bottle is 1929.

do you suppose she saved it for sentimental reasons? or did she save it because it was good? finally, i am a wine newbie. is this stuff drinkable??

thx!

Welcome to the WineBoard, bobby. I'd say she kept it for sentimental reasons. It's certainly not drinkable now. I'm not at all familar with either Caliny (could it possibly be Colony?) or Montage. Perhaps Foodie will be able to find out something for you. He lives in Hammondsport.

thanls VERY much for the welcome.

it is definitely "caliny". the label etc are in almost perfect condition. i guess the value is in the bottle, not the contents, huh?

i'd love to hear from foodie if he knows anything.

thx again.
