Matching wines with cheeses

I need a list of expensive wines and cheeses that go with them. I don't know much at all about wines or cheeses so could you please include a description of each. THANK YOU! You can pick the wines and match them with a cheese. Expensive is over $100 and the setting is Hollywood. Any type is fine. Check the fourth reply for more info.

Cat...I don't think you understand the scope of your question. We don't know where you live (has a great deal to do with what wines are available, and cheeses too, for that matter), what the purpose of the question is (are you planning a party or dinner, or are you just taking wine and cheese because it's healthy?) and are you interested in California, French or Italian wines (there are tens of thousands of wines available in most major markets)...you're just not giving us anywhere to start.

And what's expensive? That's another relative term. To some folks used to drinking jug wines...$10 seems expensive...to a rich man, $100 seems cheap. If we're to help you, you have to give us more specific information.

The setting is Hollywood. It's a formal wine and cheese tasting party. Expensive is over $100. Wines can be from anywhere. I would like a couple French,maybe some Italian, and some American. Could you just pick a few and match them with some cheeses? I really don't know much about either so give some description of what it is. O.K., so you're name dropping in a novel. May I suggest you check out www.fromages.com

It's a French cheese merchant and there's a special section on matching wines to the various cheeses.

Also a book called Cheese Primer by Steven Jenkins describes cheeses from all over the world and makes wine recommendations for each one.

Another book French Cheeses from DK Publishing in New York is specifically French with exclusively French recommendations.

You should be able to find both books at the library, I would think, or they can be published from Amazon.com
