I'm looking for a recommendation on what type of wine to drink shortly before bedtime, probably 2 hours before going to bed?
Plus, any thoughts on if this helps one sleep?
I know NOTHING about wine, so please take this into account when replying!
Thanks for your help!!

Hi Hiker and welcome to the board. I think you're probably focusing on the wrong beverage if you need assistance in sleeping. ANY alcoholic beverage would more than likely do the opposite. IMHO a glass of warm milk would do the job. Good luck. WW

Welcome to the board, hiker. Suggest you try sipping a very small glass (1 oz.) of Port before bedtime. It's high in alcohol content for a wine (about 20%) and you might find it relaxing as you prepare for bed. You won't find a Port in a supermarket.... you'll need to visit a liquor store. Ask the clerk for a bottle of Taylor-Fladgate Late Bottled Vintage Port, or Dow's non-vintage ruby Port. Either should cost less than $20. After opening, keep the bottle corked on the kitchen counter, rather than refrigerating it. It should last for several weeks.

If you find you enjoy that, you might try having wine with supper each evening. Look down the board to the section on Wine and Food for discussions of wine & food pairings.

Have fun. I've been enjoying wine for over 40 years, but I'm still learning every day. It's a fun trip.

Hi Hiker. I definitley agree that any wine 2 hours before bed will keep you up. Contrary to another post however, you can purchase port at a store. It will be cheap in quality but you can even get it at safeway. However, you need to be aware that it is considered a dessert wine and is very sweet.
