I'm planning to broil fish tomorrow (Sat) night for dinner. Planning on broiling the fillets in extra virgin olive oil. Don't yet know which type of fish because I haven't gone to the store yet but probably char, flounder, or possibly swordfish steak. I prefer the NZ sauvignon blancs for shellfish and Sancerres for baked, marinated (e.g. ginger terriyaki) fish. Any suggestions for a simple broiled fish that isn't as "strong" as the baked and marinated variety.

Hi Dave, and welcome to the Wine Board. I would drink different wines with the different fish, even simply broiled with OO. For the char, recommend the Kiwi SB or Sancarre, with the swordfish recommend a Vermentino or Cotes Du Rhone Blanc. For the flounder recommend an Unwooded or Unoaked chardonnay from Oz or NZ or a Macon Villages.

I always liked Valpolicella (light, fruity red) with swordfish steak.
