For the last 5 years I've been reading wine books about buying, serving, tasting, drinking, cellaring, making, countries, varietals, styles, appellations, critics, laws, flaws, gossip, and jokes. But I have never seen a book on winery management or marketing. I would like to know what would be the day-to-day activities that take place on a winery. Chances are that it will be as boring as any other business, but maybe a good read any way.

Though not exactly what you're looking for, I've read two first person narratives/memoirs that talk about the day-to-day life in the business of starting and running a winery. The first is called My First Crush, by Kaplan, who with her husband purchased Panther Creek from Ken Wright in the WIllamette Valley. The other is called The VIneyard, by Hargraves, about starting a vineyard on Long Island. Both give a decent inside look at the day-to-day life.

Just in case you are looking for a marketing book, I think that this one is a course book. but it's pricy at $115 at Amazon.com

I saw that material and was tempted, but because I'm into reading about wine for the love of wine, I decide to spend the money on wine! Any way, the two recommendations given previously can fit the bill for the moment. My curiosity about the wine business is that I read about people that talk with such passion about it that it looks more an adventure than a job. Thanks for the recommendations.

I would also recommend "Adventures on the Wine Trail" by Kermit Lynch. He is arguably one of the best importers of French wine in the country. I can't remember the honor, but he was given a very prestigious award by the French Gov't, which is very high up and almost never bestowed upon a foreigner, for his work with French wine. Its not exactly in your perameters, but it is a wonderful look at his philosophy and dealings on the importation of wines from their source.

Truly a must read for anyone who has a passion for wine.
