A number of novice queries involve the search for decent, inexpensive, readily available wines. Here is a beginning list of some reds that might meet those criteria. Anyone care to comment or to suggest some whites as another topic?

Fetzer 1999 Syrah California Valley Oaks
Bogle 2000 Merlot California
Bogle 1999 Petite Sirah California
Bogle 2000 Zinfandel California Old Vine
Rosemount 2001 Shiraz-Cabernet South Eastern Australia
Columbia Crest 1999 Merlot-Cabernet Columbia Valley
Columbia Crest 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley
Columbia Crest 1999 Merlot Columbia Valley Grand Estates
Villa Mt Eden 1999 Pinot Noir

I think this is a good and useful topic for folks. I'll toss in my recommendation for the following four wines that were my introductory reds (all around $10, vintages left off as many would be unavailable now, but the producers are pretty consistent):

Bonny Doon's Ca del Solo Big House Red
McGuigan Shiraz
Tommasi Raphael
Luna di Luna red blends
