Is there a website(maybe with audio samples) or a good book that teaches how to pronounce most of the words in the wine world(wine/grape types, cities, accessories, etc.)? One might be able to learn a lot about wine, but without knowing how to pronounce, it could be an embarrasing moment, or two...

It is a valid point. I have not seen anything worthwile for this. I would suggest putting up words in question to this bulletin board and we can answer you phonetically.

Some of the Wine CD/ROMs talk to you...most of them go for about $50...I can recommend one or two if you're interested in that format.

What a great question! Why don't we, JDM, put together a book on tape or video to meet this need?

www.wine-lovers-page.com used to have a good directory on pronunciation...they may still, it's worth checking out.

On another subject entirely, wine-lovers-page also has a chat room that opens every Wednesday and Sunday. I visit there on Sundays (around 4pm US time), and it would be great to chat to any of you if you feel like dropping by!

P.S. As for CD ROMs, in my humble opinion, Oz Clarke's Wine Guide is the best one around at the moment. And yes, it's packed with audio samples.

Ditto on the Oz Clarke CD. It has pronunciations for quite a few different varieties.
