I've been asked to deliver a 2 minutes spew on technically why and what wines would work with Japanese food such as Sushi or lightly cooked meats/seafood japanese style.

I've got no clue...anyone here help point me in the right direction?

I really want to answer this but I have to get some shut-eye. Think fresh! And think Spanish! That's a start.....Oh Albarino, Verdelho etc.......Tempranillo blends etc......

Eng,

Sushi often has the hot and salty/spicy sauces; for that, think fruity. The last time I had a night of debauchery by way of sushi, it was Riesling all the way.

By Japanese style meats and seafood I assume you mean tempura. To me, that is more problematic than sushi, 'cause you have to know the strength of the stuff inside the batter. As Brappy said, Spanish might work.

Having said all that, Kirin beer seems to do the job...

A seafood and sushi restaurant in Charlotte has wines that complement their cuisine. New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is one choice.

Thanks all! I knew that it would not be easy. I'm taking that knowledge tomorrow to a Japanese dinner with a few friends to try out....including the owner who is interested in how wines match up with Japanese food.
