I am looking for a great red wine for my father-in-law. Their family is Italian / German and grew up making their own wines. He has some good old ones still stored, but I am looking for a more recent great tasting wine that is still drinkable (personally, I cannot stand some of the old stuff -- more worthwhile as a collectible than a drink). Any suggestions?

Hi Randy, and welcome to the Wine Board. Recommend a Vino di Ripasso also know as Valpolicella Classico Superiore. This is a rich wine made by first fermenting a Valpolicella and putting it through a second fermention over the pomace of Amarone. It makes a very rich, versitile, ready to go wine selling usually between $10 & $20. We like them with Italian food, steak, or just plain quaffing.
