Just Another Novice

Dear friends, afficionados,

Growing up as a kid, I have always appriciated wine. Now that I am 21, I am exploring all the wines that are available. I am trying to take advantage of my location just south of Temecula Valley. I have been trying mostly red wines for now, but the next bottle of wine is going to be a white wine. So far I have enjoyed a good Cab., Sangiovese, Merlot, and a Pinot Noir. Wine has now become my passion. I want to learn as much about wine as possible, because next year I am going to go to Italy to teach english, so that I may be able to put my knowledge to good use. I am open to all suggestions for wine choices, because so far, I have not found a wine that I did not like.

Hi there Keith and welcome. To start, definitely take advantage of your location; visit all the wineries in Temecula and taste all the wines you can. I spent a lovely day tasting in Temecula last summer, and I know that Innkeeper and others have been there as well. Give us your impressions of the ones you visit as well as the wines you drink. As you drink more, you'll develop more preferences and more of an understanding.

In addition, you'll learn a bunch in Italy next year just by taking the time to taste different wines and keeping track of what you taste.

My favorite winery in Temecula is Mount Palomar. For whites they have Cortese (an Italian white with a splash of chardonnay), Viognier, and Riesling; all nice. Be sure to sample their Meritage. It is a complex red that sells ($18) at half the price of others in that class.
