I've seen it on numerous labels and heard people make reference to a certain "cuvee", but I can't figure out exactly what it means and I was too embarassed to show how little I know by asking! - is it a style or a certain way the wine was made or something else? Thanks!

It means different things in different contexts. Most commonly it means "blend." It is used on the labels of wines that are blends of different grapes.

Lisa, lack of knowledge about a subject should never make you feel embarrassed. How do you think those knowledgeable people became so? Ask every question that comes to mind!
