Reds, Reds, ... Reds

Good Evening ~

Last week I promised that I would write about my trip to Sweet Cheeks winery in Crow, Oregon. Obviously, I have not posted my comments - but I will. My wedding reception is rapidly approaching, and time is sailing by at warp-speed. I will, honestly, post my comments in the coming days.

But, my current dilemma is what red to choose for my reception. A merlot? Syrah? Pinot Noir? Bordeaux? Cab? As previously stated in other messages, I really enjoy my Oregon wines, and would like to stick with them, but it appears the local wineries are just about sold out! Yikes! Any suggestions for something to go with any type of food (more like a cocktail party reception) - the white is Sweet Cheeks Semi-Sweet Riesling (it isn't really that sweet to the palate, though).

Price point is "reasonable", whatever people believe is a reasonable price for a red works for me.

IMHO I think the Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot or Cabernet would make a hit with most wine drinkers and not break the piggy-bank. Also you'd be giving the business to a sister state. WW

If you want to stay with Oregon Wines look for Second Labels from outfits like King Estate. The most popular wines with crowds are Syrah and Chardonnay. You do need a few bottles of white wine despite your preference for reds. Don't forget a sparkler for the toast.

Argtle makes a bunch of fabulous sparklers, but the prices are about $25. They may be a bit pricey, but they're about the best Oregon has to offer. Domaine Meriwether is another very nice Oregon sparkler producer. One of theirs is the Pinot Noir Rose sparkler which you can get for about $12 (case price).
