I am having a difficult time selecting a red wine and white wine to server for at our wedding. The meal choices are chicken pecan and roast beef au jus. The wedding will be the second weekend in August.

We really hope to find a good value under $10 per bottle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the board, GK. And congrats on your pending nuptials. Distribution of specific wines is very spotty from one part of the country to another. However, I recommend a Sauvignon Blanc with the chicken pecan, and a Syrah or Shiraz (or Rhone) with the beef. An inexpensive French Sauvignon Blanc (labeled "Bordeaux Blanc") is Michel Lynch: I've paid as much as $10 for it, and as little as about $3.60. For the red, Les Jamelles Syrah and Fat Bastard Shiraz would both work, and both are from the Languedoc region of SW France. Neither should cost more than $10, and I'm buying both right now for $7.99. A word of warning on the Sauvignon Blanc - there's a lot of cheap junk on the market. Michel Lynch is the only really cheap French one I know of that's decent. But there are several from New Zealand that are spoken well of - I'm just not familiar with them. Check with your retailer. But for the red, think "Rhone", or "Syrah" or "Shiraz", and you should be OK.

2000 Bogle Merlot or Petit Sirah are both dandy reds for under $10 case discount for the roast beast. BTW congrats on the upcoming hitchen'.

Thank you hotwine and Drew! My fiancee and I will have to start hunting and tasting all of your suggestions. I'll post which ones we finally choose once we settle on two. She's now even thinking of Sangria. I'm not too sure about that...we'll see.

Cheers to you in advance! Thank you again.
