1997 Wines that will last 15+ years

I have a small request and I am wondering if anyone might be able to help me. I wish to purchase some wine from 1997 that will age and be usable 15 plus years from now. I understand wine must have a fairly high level of Tannin and have acidity to age properly.

1997 is my son’s birth year and thought it would be fun down the road in the future to produce a 1997 bottle of wine for special occasions; e.g. graduation or his wedding.

I must confess, although I enjoy a glass of wine now and then, I am far from an expert. How does one tell the levels of Tannin and acidity in a particular wine? Can you recommend such a wine?

I appreciate any help and advise you might be able to provide to me.

Try and find some good Riserva or top bottlings of Aglianico del Vulture or Taurasi, these can age for 50 years no problem. AND Amarone is basically indestructable....

Good choices. Would also add Brunello di Montalcino. You might also peruse the Cabernet Sauvignon thread for some ideas. The Italians may be easier to find. Their '97s have just been released recently, while the cabs were released two years ago.

The 97 Beringer Reserve has just been released and the 97 Beaulieu George de Latour Reserve would also go the distance. Also check the storage thread, for unless you have proper storage you'll end up with 15 year-old vinegar. WW
