How to find reviews on french wine

I just started my own cellar, and although I have an idea on Spanish wineries , Im clueless on French.
There are so many small wineries within Bordeaux that how do you discern the right winery from the wrong one
To make things open Im looking into boying a case of CHATEAU BOUTISSE 1997 - St. Emilion Grand cru is this a good buy? ($30.00 a bttl)
Or a CHATEAU CALON ( Not Segur ) 1995 at $35.00 a pop.

Rick, Welcome to the board. Much as I hate to say this ( Curmy would give me 100 tongue-lashings) one of the most reliable(MOST TIMES) wine writers that covers bordeaux is Robert Parker . He has an extensive on-line site( I`ve never Visited) that should give you enough info to start. Unfortunately, I`m far more informed on Calif and U.S. wines than french. I`ve never heard of either of the 2 you mention. Have had some marvelous bottles of Calon-Segur(82). I like St. Estephe`s stle of juice. Wish I could be of more help. Incredible as it might seem there are no good retailers of California Wine in Mexico
Its incredible no?
We are neighbors and we cant enjoy californias good stuff.
Ill have to check on Import dues to see if
its possible with nafta to get it shipped
to mexico, but Im afraid that the Haul in a truck is going to kill the wine ( vibration & heat ) Airfare is a killer.

Would you be so kind to advice the URL adress of the Gentlemans web page you mentioned? I would really appreaciate so.

Have you tried any of the mexican californians? There is a new one from MONTE XANIC, called DON RICARDO, named after Richard Joyel (RIP recently) one of the main owners, in his memory supposed to be quite good.

And about Vicente Fox, what can I say, he just obliterated 70 years of moderate dicatorship in mexico.
He has all the mexicans Hope resting on his shoulders.

Ricardo, 71 but who`s counting.How far are you from , say, San Diego? Some marvelous stores there. Vintage wines sell any & all wines from eberwher. If you are serious about building a cellar then you need to go and buy wines at the source. Phoenix has some marv places to buy juice. I`ve toted 20 cases at a time from Napa and Sonoma for the last 30 years. It do be hard, but very rewarding . Winoweenie

Im located in Mexico City, far away, and local customs limit you to only 3 liters of wine per person, it sucks.

Ill get a list of what's available in California wines, and Ill ask for your expert counsel.
