Patriotic Prejudice

What a wonderfuly diverse topic "different tongues etc" turned out to be. How about this? The majority of posts seemed be from those of you from the States and it would appear that you may be slightly biased towards your American wines. Is this because you haven't had exposure to Aussie wine or that Aussies believe our wine is pretty damn special?

They make wine in Australia? Well blow me down...... ;-)

It is the same problem everywhere - availability. The majority of your very special wines never leave the country, same as ours. Those that do make it here are usually the big ho hum commercial efforts. Occasionally some good stuff drifts this way and believe me, it is snapped up rapidly.

Don't even get me started on Aussie wines, Jeneroo. It's one of my (many) fetishes. Suffice to say (for now) that I think Down Under style Chardonnays and Rieslings (especially from the Margaret River), as well as Semillons (especially Clare Valley's) are amongst the easiest with Asian influenced foods. Just the right combination of zest and between-the-eyes varietal intensity; whereas, such types are extremely rare and far between in, say, California. 'Nuff for now.

Hi JEN!! I like good Aussie wines when I can get them. I live in Minnesota which is sort of the US outback. [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb/smile.gif[/img] Not really, well maybe, okay, it seems that way when you live here! [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb/smile.gif[/img] What I am trying to say is, I have a harder time getting some of the nicer wines here, much smaller market than on the coasts. But I keep after them...manager meets me at the door now....<grin>

Hey Jen,

When I worked for a distributor we handled David Wynn, Wynn's, Mount Adam and lesser Australian wines. No prejudice against them here. Just used Beringer as an example; in fact, you guys have your overload of wood and flab too.

Not Mountadam, though, foodie. Nice, understated, natural toned stuff! (Which would make them weird... for Oz)
