Storing Wine in Wine Cooler

I have learned that wine coolers are not the ideal place to store wine long-term, due to the subtle vibrations of the cooler which may disturb the wine while it ages.

I purchased a wine cooler before learning this nugget of wisdom, and one of the justifications for my purchase was the fact that I could store my nicer red wines in a cooler location (as recommended in the "wine for dummies" books I own). Now, I should say that none of my wines are super expensive, but I have purchased a few bottles with the idea that I would store them for a few years before uncorking.

My questions: How important is it to have absolute stillness in wine storage? For the relatively main stream wines I am purchasing (none, more expensive then $30 or $40), will the subtle vibrations of the cooler make long term storage in the cooler (i.e., storage for two or more years) a complete waste of time?

If so, what is a budding novice oenophile to do regarding long-term storage of wine? I have no immediate plans to own more than a few dozen bottles of wine and I have no access to a cellar.

If you will post the brand and model of your unit, we should be able to help you. Most reputable units do not have excessive vibration.
