Storage issue

I have an issue that I don't understand. I buy a case of wine per month for daily consumption, mostly for the week end. I store the wines in the guess room that is close and dark all the time with a temp around 70 degrees, set sideways and low on the floor.

Lately most of the wines that I opened have a funky smell. The smell is not overwhelming but is not normal for the wine, because I tried the wines before and they do not have that smell and are different wines, varietals, countries, still...

The only thing that I could think of that there is something wrong with the way that I storage my wines.

One thing that I noticed is that after a while, the smell goes out, but by them there is not too much wine left to enjoy...

What I'm doing wrong? I'm thinking about a wine fridge, only thing is that I don't know where to put it... (don't have space...)

IMHO the problem isn't with your storage. Wines stored at 70* should be sound for 5 years. My guess is your supplier has misteated your juice or his importer has. Haven't paid much attention to your posts, but you aren't buying 66 Bordeaux are you? WW

No Bordeaux, not cellared wines... we are talking young QPR's. One of them for example was an Ozzy Shiraz 2003 with screw cap, I open it on a Friday, on Saturday I went to the store for a wine tasting and one of the wine to taste was the same wine. The one on the tasting tasted great, mine have this barnyard smell too strong for my taste.

What I think either the Brett or sulfur is been "activated" somehow...

I don't think is the store because most of those wines I tasted before buying them.

Bottles of wine are like babies. They may all look the same but they are not.

That is the "interesting" thing about wine.

Truthfully? I would take back the bottles that are funky smelling. No retailer will refuse it becuase they know the winery will replace their bottle.

If it keeps happening with the same producer then obviously something is wrong with the shipping. Most distributors have temperature controlled warehouses. Most.
