While moving my parents to live near us, we found in their cellar a bottle of Chateau Laffitte Rothschild vintage 1918(among other interesting items). My Dad wanted to drink it but we figured we should at least try to get an estimate of its value. Its been in the family cellar for over 40 years. Can anyone tell me where to find its value?

A bottle of that age, even if impeccibly stored, would likely be undrinkable. Even the legendary 1945s are fading into history. Most people would not purchase it, but you might find some collector who would want it for a curiosity.

According to the venerable Mike Broadbents` Vintage Wine Book, 1918 was a healthy but rough vintage and the Lafite in 1969 was drying up. Had lovely old spicy nose, dried out, lightish but lovelyflavour, with variablr end acidity. A 2 star wine at the time( 5 being outstanding) Was probably on the way down-hill in mid-70`s. Not much chance this wine from a mediocre vintage is any more than a curiosity. winoweenie
