The web browser is basically the tool that you use to surf the web. It is the program behind the little icon you click on to go online when you first sit down at your PC.

There are three or four major web browsers: Internet Explorer by Microsoft; Netscape Navigator; Mozilla Firefox; Opera.

About 75% of people are using Internet Explorer but it's not the best, IMHO.

Hint: if you see the word "help" at the very top of the screen you're in now, hold it down and you will see at the bottom of the list "About XYZ". Select this and you will see the browser's name and its release version number. If I know what browser you are using, I can help you more.

Thank you, Jackie

Hey, what about Safari!

I'm having no problems, but then I never do with a Mac.

In all seriousness, the only thing I notice is that there is a difference in whether lights for new posts stay "on" depending on whether, from a new topic post, I go back to the main board using the "WIne Board" link or whether I hit the "back" button on my browser. I'll try it both ways and let you know which one keeps the new post lights "on" and which one makes the new posts lights go off when I go back to the main board page.

Oh yes, Safari! Oops!

OK. Let's try to see if the IE browser settings are causing this problem for you, WW. Hang with me and we'll change one setting that affects the cookies... (This is how your browser remembers when/where you've been on the Board.) It's not hard and will only take a minute.

At the top of the browser, select "Tools" and then "Internet Options". Open that and then click on the tab that says "Privacy". You will see a page for settings and a few buttons. Click on the button marked "Sites".

In "Address of web site" just type in: http://wines.com

Click the button marked "ALLOW" and then hit "OK" and "OK" again to close the options box.

I recommend going to the homepage of wines.com and clicking on the girl with the wineglass... join our community". See if this fixes the problem you are having. It may take loggin in a few times.

If this doesn't fix it, we'll move to the next step.

Pls. let me know.

Thanks,
Jackie

It tells me I've entered an "invalid domain."

Try just plain wines.com instead of http://wines.com
