On a previous visit I bought an on-sale bottle of red Burgundy from 1990, hoping to compare the mature wine with the same producer's 1999 bottling. Unfortunately, the cork disintegrated when I tried to remove it (the whole center of the cork was crumbling) and the wine had gone bad. It was months later before I got to DC again, but I took the 1990 bottle with me and explained what happened and they let me receive credit for a bottle of German wine I was buying on this recent trip (I bought about ten bottles of French, German and Oregon wines).

I admit that after months had gone by I would ponder before doing what they did, but I'd likely do the same in the end, especially after a long, hard look into WOW's smiling, honest face...
