Monopol corkscrew

Hope you didn't spend the $37.50 as advertised at that site, those types of corkscrews can be found for around $5 or so each in many stores. BTW, it is an effective style and very sturdy.

No I meant that style. It's a very sturdy style, not many parts and lasts a long time. The stainless steel pushes up the price.

I agree...it's VERY sturdy. It's heavy, well-balanced and works with no straining at all. Sort of takes the fun out of having your wine fight back as you try to pull the cork.

The chrome plated jobs at K-Mart and Walmart and the Navy Exchange are the ones that run for five bucks.

I, personally, don't like this style of corkscrew.

I prefer the waiter's friend style. The brand I like is Pulltap's.

When we travel we carry both a waiter's friend (a very nice brushed stainless steel model given us by our son) and a Screwpull pocket model we got on sale for $12.95 (about half price). I feel the worm styles work much better than the helix styles, particularly on older bottles where the cork may be softening.

A friend gave me the CO2-powered needle. It's big fun to use (zero broken cork) but doesn't work on plastic corks.

Knuckleheads like me that do not like to have corked wines. I even buy (shudder) wines with screwcaps.

Thumbs up to progressive wineries not afraid to do away with cork.
