2004 Dominio del Plata Crios de Susana Balbo

50/50 blend of Syrah and Bonarda from Argentina.

Opaque purple in glass -- very dark hues. Nose of dark fruits -- black plum and blackberry -- with some earthiness. Opened pretty tightly-wound, with considerable power and tannins, but rounded out into a nice, juicy treat, with the fruit flavors following the nose. Give it some air and have it with heavy meat dishes (unless you're a veg like me, then drink it on a cold winter night all by itself). Not as good the second night, however, as it turned a bit funky, with the earthiness becoming more brambly (if that's a word). Alc. 13.5%. Paid $11.
