About 10 years ago I was living on the island of Kauai. Our local liquorstore sold a white wine made from pineapples that was wonderful. I believe it was made in Hawaii somewhere but I forgot the name of it or the maker. Anyone out there ever heard of this, and hopefully have any info on name, maker or where I might be able to buy some without going back to Hawaii? Please let me know. Thanks.

You are talking about Tedeschi Winery in Ulupalakua in Upcountry Maui. They make a lot of wines, including their pineapple wine, a nice gimmick for tourists. It is distributed widely.

Best bet to find the stuff is to call:

Tedeschi Vineyards
P. O. Box 953
Ulupalakua
Maui, Hawaii 96790
Tel.: (808) 878-6058
Fax: (808) 876-0127

Is that the same Tedeschi of the over-the-top Zinfandels that can only be chewed?

You are confusing them with Teldeschi Winery in Healdsburg.

Right. I knew there was a similar name in CA. The Zinfandels I remember were way out of my league.

As for the pineapple wine: this purist wishes that fermented fruits other than grapes were not referred to as "wine." The root word for wine applies only to fermented grapes. It's like caviar, which is from a Turkish word that applies only to sturgeon roe.
