2000 Adelsheim Oregon Pinot Noir

Guess this could go in the Pinot thread, also, but here goes . . .

In lieu of actual tasting notes, I'm going to give you the dialogue (rough and from memory) between my wife and I while trying this wine this weekend.

Me: "So, what do you think?" (after pouring the first glass, following 30 minutes decanting)

Wife: "Well, the nose is, um, different. Really, Dan, it smells. Like poo. Literally."

Me: "Honey, I believe that is generally termed BARNYARD."

Wife: "Poo."

Me: "So, what do you think about the taste?"

Wife: "Well, the taste follows the nose . . ."

Me: "I'm getting some cherries. It's very smokey, isn't it?"

Wife: "Yes. Smokey poo. With cherries. Here, try it while holding your nose."

Me: "That's not a good way to try wine. A great deal of the taste is from the olifactory sense."

Wife: "It's a good way to try wine that smells and tastes like smokey poo."

There you have it, in a nutshell. We had 2 bottles, bought from 2 different stores in 2 different states, with similar notes. Despite the above dialogue, it wasn't an offensive wine, just very . . . different. We loved the '99. $20. Alc. 13.4%
