Since we're now into our second case of Duboeuf's Nouveau, I stopped by my preferred retailer today to restock, and Yikes! He had already sold out! The word has spread that this is a superb Nouveau. I'll have to scrounge second & third tier sources to obtain more. Heads up: if you want it, you'd better act quickly!

Today I checked with all the local wine shops, all of their 2000 Beaujolais Nouveau is about gone. One shop had one bottle of the Maison La Martine left. None had a case left for sale.

Last year I saw several wine shops still trying to sell the 1999 Nouveau in late August and early September.

Either marketing has gotten better, allocations have shrunk or the product has improved.

I'll opt for improved product.

Retailers in this area were also burned last year by the unsold Nouveau cluttering their shelves into the summer. (It was pretty bad Nouveau.) This year, they apparently gambled that demand would be down again, so they didn't order as much as last year. And surprise, the wine is good, so they could sell a lot more, if they had only ordered it from the distributors. They're missing sales opportunities, and many consumers will miss the enjoyment of a very nice wine. So we all lose.

Well there go the price points on GD Beaujolais...... right through the ceiling from now on, no doubt.

Take a look at the Nov 30 Speculum, page 74. I've not read it thoroughly, but it seems to be very complimentary to GD. I will be reading the article in detail. It is quite long and covers quite alot about Georges Duboeuf - THE KING OF BEAUJOLAIS.
