does nouveau really go bad after the fall? I just received a bottle as a gift and was hoping it was still safe to drink.

Beaujolias Nouveau is designed to be drunk young. It tends to start going downhill rapidly after about six months. It is released in November. Like Innkeeper said, drink it before summer.
