This is a wine that only Total seems to carry. I remember liking it when it came out, in 2003 or so. Now it has already lost much of its power. Sort of cloying, in a dry sort of way - just seemed to cover the inside of my entire mouth with a feeing of lk of bance. I woon'tby other years. $16.

Oh dear! I just noticed last night that I have a Christian Salmon Sancerre in my inventory and it may be the 2002. I will try it this summer as it won't be getting any better probably. However, mine may be the Cuvee Vielles Vignes. Was yours from old vines? There is a Total Wine Shop in Raleigh so I may have purchased it there.

Yes, it is the old vine version.

I'm glad you managed through my egregious typing. That sequence of words towards the end (among other accidents) should have read "lack of balance."

Got around to trying my 2002 Christian Salmon Sancerre Cuvee Vielles Vignes but mine turned out to be the Rose' version (small label on back says Rose' table wine). In the thick green bottle you can't tell the color of the wine and I thought this was going to be a Sauvignon Blanc.

An Alfio Moriconi Selection
Winemaker at Bue'-Cher, France
12.5% alcohol
Consumed with crab and shrimp cake.
Salmon or blush color with transparency. Has a little of the flavor of a Blanc de Noir Champagne without the bubbles. Unripe strawberries and watermelon and a bit of vanilla/toasty oak mid-palate. Unlike other Sancerre rose' wines I've had from Pascal or Francois Cotat. I don't enjoy it as much, but I find it somewhat interesting and provocative.
