2003 Daniel Crochet Sancerre

Tried a small pour at Enoteca Vin, Raleigh.
$6.50 for 3 oz. pour, $11.00 for glass, $39 for a bottle at the restaurant. Very pale, almost colorless. Not as interesting as the Pascal Cottat V.V. Sancerre or the 2000 Lucien Crochet Sancerre Le Chene. A mild frown. I have many better Sancerres.
A very nice lady who sat next to me refered to the producer as Daniel "Crockett."

Didn't you know that after the Alamo, Davy's brother went to Sancerre to start up a winery, and the family keeps it going???

Ah, those 2003 Sancerre's are dangerous. I've had one in the cellar for a couple of months (Buissones) and have been afraid to open it.

Fear not, Foodie, the Buissones is one of the better bottlings of the 2003 that I've tried. It ain't typical (it's pretty big), but it is recognizable, and a nice wine under the (vintage) circumstances.

Another one that did okay was the P. Cottat Sancerre V.V. Perhaps not as acidic as other vintages but still a delight to drink.

2003 Buissonnes Sancere (Naudet & Fils)

Color: pale

Nose: good; representative, that goosebury thing...

Palate: herbal, earthy but much rounder than I prefer in Sancerre. Really light on acidity. Not that it is bad--just that it is not what I seek from Sancerre.

Having said that, instead of seafood or goat cheese, I had it with veal Milanese, and it was a good pairing, except for a slight hot finish (says it is 12.5%).

I paid $16.99 for it in Rochester or Ithaca--not sure which. Not really worth it to me.
