suggestions for sommelier exam study material

I am wanting to take the sommelier exams. I have been in the business for about 5 years. Does anyone have suggestions for booksor other material that may be of help? I will be most grateful for the assistance.

Welcome to the board. Which school are you going to? If it is for the WSET, the recommend a number of books but there is not one that is for the course. Many books will be a good start for this including Wine for Dummies, Wine Bible, Wine Atlas (J. Robinson) and Oxford guide to Wine. they also recommend that you read the periodicals.

Having taken the intro course, it was only really important to read one complete intro book, like the wine course, wine bible, wine for dummies, etc, as they will bring you through everything else. That list should have been part of the package they sent you.

If you are going through the Court then you will need to know a little about each region of the world as well as some service questions.

If you were serving Sekt to your guests what kind of glass would you use? What is the southern most wine region in Australia? The major grape of Piedmont is what?

Questions like that are on the test. I believe that it was about 70 questions. They do a major review the day before the test that is fast and furious. No time for questions. You either know it or you don't.
