The God of wine must have been looking out for me this past weekend. I was removing a Volnay from the wine cooler to drink over the weekend and thought the pile was pretty stable. I turned my back to set the Volnay on the counter and heard a rush of tumbling bottles. Four or five bottles hit the dining room floor and none were broken! They included a Kosta Browne Pinot Noir, a Kurt Darting Beerenauslese, a 2001 Muller Catoir, and a Brunello di Montalcino (none of which I am willing to sacrifice.)

You're one lucky lil' darlin' WOW. There's nothing that hurts more than looking at the bottle you looked forward to opening hits the floor and the red stains everything in proximity. Had a really nasty experience early on here that I'll retell someday. XXX&OOOs'. WW

Ouch! Could have been a disaster!

Lesson to self - self, this is a good reason to drink only Bordeaux and Brunello, just to avoid all those pesky weirdly-shaped bottles that get all shaky when stacked.

Sounds like the powers of Bacchus are urging you to consume his divine nectar...

I had been thinking it is probably time to open the Beerenauslese but it should be shared probably so maybe at an offline.
