Mailers, we get mailers. So far this month, I've received Siduri, Red Car, Scherrer, Roar, Jones Family, Clos Mimi, Downing Family and Joel Gott. Time to start weeding.

And it's the worst time of the year to ship wine!

Interestingly, almost all the wineries are saying they won't ship until after October 1, unless I say otherwise. If I choose an earlier date, they say they're not responsible for heat damage. This is a very refreshing attitude change.

'Course shipping into here is verboten from May till Mid-October. The one time a winery decided they needed to turn money and shipped in August I refused the shipment and cancelled all future orders. WW

There's a story about the early Gallo days, when the brothers were on the rise. Story goes that they managed to have a wine rail shipment of a rival winery halted somewhere in the Southwest long enough for the blazing heat to ruin the already inferior wine. Then, they moved into the market for which that wine was intended.

That's what I call a "heated" rivalry in the wine business. It's "freighted" with possibilities.

GH and SO don't have anything I want from their mailers that I can't get locally, except maybe the GH Merlot. I got that once, but not since the 99. Get the Ceja (and many other) emails, but just haven't tried it yet. Ridge won't ship to me.
